Our Core Principles
- No Paid Rankings: Affiliate commissions do not influence our recommendations.
- Verified Data: All pricing and features are sourced from official vendor documentation.
- Trade-Focused: We prioritize features that matter to contractors, not enterprise features they'll never use.
Our Review Process
Every software comparison on FieldTech Reviews follows a structured, repeatable process to ensure consistency and accuracy.
1. Data Collection
We aggregate information from official vendor websites, pricing pages, feature documentation, and mobile app stores. We never rely on marketing materials alone.
2. Feature Mapping
We catalog each tool's capabilities across categories that matter to field service businesses: Scheduling & Dispatching, Invoicing & Payments, Mobile App Quality, Customer Communication, and Integrations.
3. Trade-Specific Fit
Not every tool is right for every trade. We evaluate which features matter most to plumbers, electricians, HVAC technicians, landscapers, and general contractors—then weight our recommendations accordingly.
4. Verdict Generation
Our comparison engine weighs all factors to produce a clear recommendation. We always declare a winner, but we're honest about trade-offs and situations where the "loser" might be the better choice.
What We Evaluate
Pricing Transparency
We document starting prices, per-user fees, and any hidden costs. If a vendor requires a sales call for pricing (looking at you, ServiceTitan), we note that clearly.
Mobile App Quality
For field techs, the mobile app IS the product. We evaluate App Store ratings, offline functionality, GPS tracking, and real-world usability.
Key Feature Density
We focus on features that directly impact daily operations:
- Scheduling & Dispatching (drag-and-drop, route optimization)
- Invoicing & Payments (mobile payments, QuickBooks sync)
- Customer Communication (automated reminders, SMS notifications)
- Reporting & Analytics (job costing, revenue tracking)
Our Limitations
We believe in transparency about what we can't do:
- We don't have unlimited access to every tool's premium features.
- Pricing changes frequently—we update when we can, but always verify with the vendor.
- We don't conduct long-term usability studies (yet).
